Maya Gallery was conceptualised in a cozy café surrounded by foliage in Tjampuhan, one of the artistic towns of Ubud, Bali. In Sanskrit, "maya" means "wealth" – not in monetary terms, but in the richness of the soul when overwhelmed with the beauty of art, literature, music and all artistic expressions.

It is from this belief that art can inspire the human spirit that Maya Gallery came into fruition in 2012. Located in the heart of Kampong Glam, a district known for its culture, history, heritage and cuisine, Maya Gallery is right in the midst of where the world meets for a cuppa… and teh tarik.

The gallery aims to feed the soul with its specially selected display of local and international art works that encourages conversations with the audience, and evokes the appreciation of the real messages behind the colours and the canvases… told from the heart.

I’m drawn to art and beautifully designed things. I believe art inspires, and has a role to play in society.”

Masturah Shaari, Maya Gallery

I grew up listening to my father’s piano, violin, clarinet and saxophone, and seeing his paintings unfold before my eyes. Through art, we can know more about our heritage, our history.

Jeffrey Wandly, Maya Gallery
