Masturah Sha'ari sees the beauty in old places and discarded objects. She is fascinated by textures of materials, raw energy of everyday ordinary people, and is concerned about the development of a child’s potential through the arts, which promotes overall creativity and intelligence. Started drawing at a young age, Mas won a few neighbourhood art competitions with her natural flair for colour and composition. Despite being advised by her art teachers in school to pursue an art education to develop her artistic potential, her chosen path was in academic studies which her parents felt was most important.

Mas graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the National University of Singapore, majoring in Economics and Malay Studies. She then worked as a Librarian at the Business Centre at the Trade Development Board (now International Enterprise Singapore), where she not only headed the Design and Business collections, but also managed the library’s design needs. After a month in Japan, she pursued her love for design and graduated LaSalle-SIA College of the Arts with a Diploma in Design Communication and Distinction in her thesis.

Since then, she has been a professional graphic designer and illustrator, specialising in corporate identity and publication design. She also taught Drawing at the Singapore Polytechnic, and is the designer behind Sejati Cards–her own line of Asian inspired and eco-friendly cards and invitations.

In 2011, Masturah co-founded Maya Gallery with her husband Jeffrey Wandly to promote local artists on the international front.
