Mohd Samad Afandie first exhibited his work, ‘Anuradha Koirala’s Maiti Nepal, the Fight against Human Trafficking’, in November 2012 at ION Orchard. Anuradha Koirala, a Nepalese social activist who rescued 12,000 women from Sex-Traffickers, was awarded the CNN Women Hero of the Year in 2012. Proceeds of the exhibition went to Maiti Nepal, a non-profit organisation in Nepal dedicated to help victims of sex-trafficking. Samad is a multiple award winning Infographic Journalist. He is a recipient of TWO, Best in Infographics Asia, Asia Media Awards, in 2016 and 2019 among others. A self-taught artist, he enjoys experimenting and fusing different mediums in his work. Two of the paintings exhibited in ‘Reflection’ at Maya Gallery are a fusion of oxidised copper on canvas and genuine Swarovski gems/crystals.
