Khamis Ariffen (b. 1946, Singapore), also known as Karto, is an established photographer who is well-known for his hand-crafted pinhole cameras made from recycled materials. His cameras are highly sought after by photography enthusiasts both locally and abroad. Karto believes that one only needs basic tools and an in-depth knowledge of lighting to take a good shot, rather than relying on expensive equipment. His artistic photography works have earned him a successful 40-year career, during which he has done commissioned work for advertising agencies and design companies, as well as teaching photography techniques in local schools. His prints are acquired by companies and private individuals in Singapore and overseas.
