Sarah Beal

-0001 , New Zealand

Sarah Beal is a self-taught painter from New Zealand who exclusively works with oils. The texture and blending capabilities of this medium perfectly complement her artistic style. Sarah embarked on her creative journey 16 years ago, initially specialising in still life while also embracing unique and quirky art forms.

However, Sarah's true passion lies in painting landscapes and seascapes, all of which stem from her vivid imagination. When she begins a new piece, she approaches it without any preconceived notions, relishing the moment when she discovers the direction it will take. Critics often describe Sarah's paintings as "deconstructed landscapes," a fitting portrayal of her abstract approach that nonetheless retains a discernible connection to nature. Her remarkable talent has garnered recognition, including a recent solo exhibition titled 'bl?o' at the esteemed Down by the Liffey gallery in Christchurch, New Zealand. Additionally, Sarah was honoured as the guest artist at 'Autumn and Art in the Garden' in Culverden, NZ.

Sarah's contributions to the art world have not gone unnoticed, as she has been the recipient of various prestigious awards. Notable among them are the Abstract award at the Kaiapoi Art Expo in 2021 and the Oils and People's Choice award at the Rangiora Arts Society in the same year. In September 2022, Sarah showcased her skills as a contestant in the highly anticipated Christchurch Art Battle.

Artist Statement

I have a great love of the sea and lived in Turkey for 7 years working in the yacht charter industry. A number of my paintings evolve into boats and water. The current topic of climate change and the waste of humans impacting sea life was the inspiration for 'The Rising Tide'.
