Maya Gallery congratulates Idris Mohamed Ali for winning the inaugural Heritage Prize (Hadiah Warisan)! Maya Gallery co-founders Jeffrey Wandly and Masturah Sha’ari were honoured to witness this momentous award ceremony graced by Mdm President Halimah Yacob. Mostly self-taught, Mr Idris has been painting Singapore’s landscapes and street scenes in watercolour for close to 6 decades, documenting our visual heritage. He has taught many students and teachers, and illustrated numerous award-winning books. His paintings can be found in the collections of the National Gallery Singapore, government offices, organisations and private individuals.
Mr Idris has been a member of Angkatan Pelukis Aneka Daya (APAD), an art society of Malay artists, since its formation in 1962. Maya Gallery is honoured to have worked with Pak Idris (and still is!) and happy to have nominated him. This Heritage Prize is a huge acknowledgement for his contribution to the local art scene.
Thank you to Malay Heritage Foundation. Tahniah, Pak Idris!
