Maya Gallery celebrates its 10th anniversary with Heart and Soul, a group exhibition featuring giants in the Singapore Malay visual arts scene—Cultural Medallion recipients Dr. Iskandar Jalil and Sarkasi Said; Hadiah Warisan (Heritage Prize) recipient Idris Ali; and World Gourmet Awards winner and celebrity chef Aziza Ali. It will also showcase works by gallery co-founders Jeffrey Wandly and Masturah Sha'ari.
Heart and Soul exemplifies the gallery's unbounded dedication in nurturing artists and promoting their artworks locally and internationally, in both physical and digital platforms. It also investigates the role of art galleries in sustaining the art eco-system and contributing to the discourses within the art world.
Since it was officially opened in 2012, Maya Gallery has held close to 80 exhibitions, including international art fairs and festivals, by more than 100 established and emerging artists from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, New Zealand, India, Korea, Japan, Turkey, Brazil and the United States. It also continues to support promising talents. Upholding a social responsibility, Maya Gallery engages the public in the appreciation of visual arts. It has conducted workshops, learning journeys, activities and art retreats for schools, institutions, corporate organisations and groups. It has mentored young professionals and youths, initiating creative activities for the community. It has partnered with various organisations in their fund-raising efforts through art exhibitions. It has supported national initiatives to strengthen bilateral relations, curated art society exhibitions, designed publications on heritage and culture, produced music performances, hosted book clubs and screened short films.
Voted Top 10 Art Galleries in Singapore (Tallypress.com, 2018) and awarded Recommended Favourite Art Gallery (Expat Living Reader Awards, 2015), Maya Gallery has strongly contributed to Singapore's art scene.
