Valerie Ng: Terra Incognita

SINGAPORE – Maya Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition by prize-winning Singapore-based Malaysian artist Valerie Ng. Entitled “Terra Incognita”, Latin for unknown lands, the exhibition opens on 6 June 2014 at Maya Gallery, featuring recent abstract paintings using oil on canvas. The showcase will also be accompanied by installations made of paper maché and a workshop by the artist.

The exhibition is has been extended till 27 June.

VALERIE NG (b. 1974, Malaysia) started painting seriously in 2002, after attending the Alternative Foundation in Fine Art at The Slade Summer School, The Slade School of Fine Art and University College of London, UK. She has since done residencies in the US, Iceland and Finland. Valerie has exhibited at the Singapore Art Museum as well as the National Art Gallery, Malaysia. In addition, her paintings have been auctioned by Larasati Auctioneers in Singapore. She won the First Prize in the Abstract medium category, United Overseas Bank (UOB) Painting of the Year 2004 Competition (Singapore) as well as the ‘Highly-Commended’ awards in 2006. She received a Distinction in the Malaysian Art Competition (2007) and was selected for the Young Contemporaries 2006 in Malaysia. 

MAYA GALLERY is dedicated to advance contemporary art works by young, emerging and established Singapore, Asian and international artists, with the aim to stimulate cross-cultural dialogue. The gallery has participated in the Affordable Art Fair Singapore, Artshow Busan and Bank Art Fair Hong Kong, as well as collaborated with counterparts in Indonesia and Shanghai. With activities ranging from art consultancy, talks, workshops and educational programmes, Maya Gallery is a true art retreat amidst the busy streets of Singapore.
