Emerging Malaysian contemporary artist Husin Othman makes his debut solo, Nostalgia Timur, at Maya Gallery Singapore. His exciting body of works touches on our childhood memories, granting the viewers a reflective perspective on the long lost but not forgotten memories of the past.
Husin Othman has been actively involved in the Malaysian art scene since he graduated with a fine art degree from the renowned UiTM (University of Teknologi MARA). He is the winner of the Highly Commended Award in the Established Artists category in the 2018 UOB Painting of the Year Malaysia Award. In 2014, he was awarded the Most Promising Artist of the Year in the Emerging Artists category.
Nostalgia Timur featuring 20 paintings presents an exciting insight into the progressive development of Husin’s artistic career. Audiences will be able to view his transformation from as early as 2014, with his strong signature strokes of realist figures set against a minimalist background, to year 2018 where his composition becomes more complex yet with a harmonious blend of bright and bold solid forms, up to his current and latest development where he revisits his well-known free hand lines and contours that amalgamate subtly into his paintings.
A project collaboration between Maya Gallery (Singapore) and Core Design Gallery (Malaysia), the exhibition runs from 5 September to 5 October 2019 at Maya Gallery, 62 Ubi Road 1, Oxley Bizhub 2 #01-21, Singapore 408734.
