Pameran Kini, which means current exhibition in Malay, features contemporary art by emerging Singaporean artists. Maya Gallery is delighted to present a group exhibition by emerging Singapore artists Gazaly Haron, Maisarah Kamal, Masturah Shaari, Midah Arshad, Rick Farid and Zaheera Hashim. Their works show a diversity in style yet carry an individually distinct identity and story, making a mark in the local art scene. Though certain common themes emerge, the works highlight the different ways each artist approach various issues and how they see the world around them.
Zaheera Hashim (b. 1968, Singapore) explores and experiments with colour, materials, different forms and subjects. To her, "art is a journey, and journeys are never boring". A graduate of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Western Art and Sculpture, her works are inspired by her enjoyment of the outdoors, and listening with her eyes and ears. Zaheera has exhibited in SIngapore and the United States.
Masturah Shaari (b. 1969, Singapore) sees the beauty in old places and discarded objects, and is fascinated by textures of materials and raw energy in her surroundings. Her work has developed from meticulous drawings to abstract expressions as emotional responses to life experiences and situations. A graduate of LaSalle College of the Arts in Design Communication, Mas has exhibited her art in Singapore and Malaysia.
Midah Arshad\'s (b.1972, Singapore) abstract paintings are inspired by life experiences, memory and imagination. Her bold colours are an expression of her emotions in response to situations; her swift brushwork style of sweeping, curving lines aims to express the power of nature and perception in its evolution, ever changing contrast, harmony and discord. A graduate of LaSalle College of Fine Arts and RMIT, both in Fine Art, Midah has exhibited in Singapore, Hong Kong, China and London.
Gazaly Haron\'s (b. 1979, Singapore) works are mostly inspired by the beauty in nature, expressed in florals, animals and abstracts. A graduate of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, majoring in Fine Arts (Ceramics), he is a recipient of the NAC Georgette Chen Arts Scholarship, Goh Chok Tong Youth Promise Award (Merit), and NAFA Founder\'s Day Commendation Award, among many others. An art instructor for 8 years, Gaz has exhibited his art in Singapore and Laos.
Maisarah Kamal (b. 1992, Singapore) is inspired by her surroundings; from the detailed pattern of a leaf to a painting hang in a museum. Her drawings, paintings and collages reflect her love of playing around with various mediums. Graduated with a Diploma in Art Teaching from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, she is currently pursuing her degree in Fine Arts at LaSalle College of the Arts. She has exhibited in Singapore.
Rick Farid (b. 1995, Singapore) experiments with different techniques and mediums, and the imagination. His works are inspired by Balinese and funky pop culture, as well as experiences and situations. Now studying at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Product Design, Rick aspires to merge design elements into his art. He has exhibited in Singapore.
Pameran Kini runs from 20 September till 12 October 2016.
