Maya Gallery and Angkatan Pelukis Aneka Daya (Apad) proudly present Kontemporari 2024, on view from 27 July until 3 August 2024 at Maya Gallery.
Showcasing more than 40 artworks by 27 artists across various mediums including acrylic, watercolour, batik, photography, ceramics, woodcut, sculpture and mixed media, the exhibition explores the theme of Mekar (or blossom in Malay), signifying members' artistic development and continued progress as the association celebrates its 62nd anniversary.
Apart from Apad members, there will be a guest artist (welcoming non-members as guest artists has been a Kontemporari tradition), and also pay tribute to dedicated members who have departed.
The Kontemporari series of exhibitions (previously known as Contemporary) is a regular showcase by Apad, an art society established in 1962 for Malay artists in Singapore, making it one of the leading art societies in Singapore committed to promoting the development, understanding and appreciation of visual arts. Apad members come from a multitude of backgrounds: graduates from LASALLE College of the Arts, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and other local and overseas tertiary institutions, as well as working professionals in various industries. The participating artists in Kontemporari 2024 are between the ages of 21 and 84 years old, ensuring the associations’s continuity and renewal.
All artworks are for sale, with 30% proceeds going to Apad's ongoing programme to promote visual arts.
